Socks by De Heem (Fruits) | Painted
This pair of socks is inspired by ‘Vase of Flowers,’ a flower still life painted in the 16th century by Jan Davidsz. De Heem. We extracted some of the most beautiful fragments to create this funky sock!
The Dutch painter Jan Davidsz. De Heem is to this day a world famous representant from this typical Dutch genre. Where his predecessors created rather stiff flower compositions, De Heem painted real floral explosions, with flowers at random and very expressively arranged, exotic and colourful. On one hand he did celebrate the beauty of flora to max. On the other he fully embodied the spirit of times, the ‘memento mori’, adding all kinds of symbols that referred to how limited one’s time on earth was to accomplish anything. Just remember: like a snail or a butterfly, you too will die within only minutes from now...
