Socks by Voogd | Painted

This pair of socks is inspired by the gardens of the Villa Borghese in Rome, painted in the early 19th Century by the Dutch painter Hendrik Voogd. Leaving for Italy at the age of 20 thanks to a small allowance of a patronage, Voogd lost his artistic heart to the Italian landscape. There he remained until his death in Rome, spending a lifetime in catching the Italian clear, golden sunlight in paint. This left us with some highly romantic and sizzling painted sceneries of Italy.

You can easily recognize the training as a wallpaper painter that Voogd originally had in the Netherlands, but more, we feel his great affection for Italy still today.
